Brooks, Henry J – Abingdon, Berkshire  -1869-1877-  (named sitter)  Henry was born in Birmingham around 1839 but by 1861 he was living in Abingdon, Berks. and working as an ‘artist in oils’.  At this time, he was lodging in the household of Ann Hartwell, a tobacconist.

By 1871 Henry had married Selina Couldrey, and produced five children. He is described on the 1871 census as an artist, painting & photographic; his sister Mary was also in the household working as a photo shop assistant.
